Refractory Seizures Following Encephalocoele Surgery
نویسندگان
چکیده
Encephalocele, midline defect of cranial bone fusion, occurs most frequently in the occipital region. Airway management in pediatric patients poses many challenges to the anesthesiologist. The purpose of this study is to describe the airway problems encountered for such cases, how these problems were managed and also to bring into light a rare encountered unreported problem of perioperative refractory seizures. Comprehensive care during peroperative period is essential for successful outcome.

Sleep-Related Seizures in Refractory Focal Epilepsy: Electroclinical Findings and Surgical Outcome
Background: Sleep Seizures (SSs) generally occur in refractory focal epilepsy, but their detailed characteristics and circadian patterns are still controversial. The effect of SSs on epilepsy surgery outcome has been addressed in few studies without definitive prognostic value. Objectives: This study investigated the characteristics of SSs and their prognosis in refractory focal epilepsy. M...
متن کاملRefractory Seizures in Tramadol Poisoning: A Case Report
Background: Tramadol, an analgesic drug abused by opioid addicts, is also abused accidentally or for suicidal purposes. Tramadol poisoning can induce CNS depression, seizures, coma, and ultimately death. Case: In this report, a 30-year-old male was admitted to the emergency department due to suicidal attempt with ingestion of 14000 mg (140 tablet 100 mg) of tramadol. He had history of suicidal...
متن کامل7.01.143 Responsive Neurostimulation for the Treatment of Refractory Partial Epilepsy
[TOP] Responsive neurostimulation (RNS) may be considered medically necessary for patients with partial epilepsy who meet ALL of the following criteria: Are 18 years or older. Have a diagnosis of partial-onset seizures with 1 or 2 well-localized seizure foci identified. Have an average of 3 or more disabling seizures (e.g., motor partial seizures, complex partial seizures, or secondary ge...
متن کاملProgressive skin necrosis of a huge occipital encephalocele
OBJECTS Progressive skin necrosis of giant occipital encephalocoele is an extremely rare complication found in neonates. Infection and ulceration of the necrosed skin may lead to meningitis or sepsis. We present here a neonate with giant occipital encephalocoele showing progressive necrosis during the first day of his life. METHODS A newborn baby was found to have a huge mass in the occipital...
متن کاملFrontal gray matter abnormalities predict seizure outcome in refractory temporal lobe epilepsy patients
Developing more reliable predictors of seizure outcome following temporal lobe surgery for intractable epilepsy is an important clinical goal. In this context, we investigated patients with refractory temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) before and after temporal resection. In detail, we explored gray matter (GM) volume change in relation with seizure outcome, using a voxel-based morphometry (VBM) appr...
